On the Zoom call we discussed the crew base move from FLL to MIA, the removal of free crew breakfast at hotels, and the continual problems we face with the Company.
2. First-Come, First-Served Vacation Bidding
The second round of bidding that is “first-come, first served” is now available to all CCMs via CrewConnex. After you login to CrewConnex, click on the Vacation Tab on the top menu and follow the instructions.
3. Union Request for Per Diem Increase
The joint union meeting with the company to discuss hotels was rescheduled to next week. Because the breakfast situation is time sensitive, the AFA sent a request to the company today explaining the removal of breakfast at hotels is disproportionally unfair to the US-based crew. We also explained that with our low flying hours, crew are struggling to afford the most basic needs such as food. As a remedy, we have requested for the company to increase the per diem rate of US crew enough to cover the cost of breakfast at the hotels we currently stay at.
4. Proposal regarding UK AOC training for new hires
Also today, the AFA has sent a proposal to Norse Management requesting that all CCMs hired on or after January 1st 2023 be trained to work Norse UK flights by the beginning of next year. Having all new CCMs qualified to work UK flights would allow the company to perform a second “bid” for AOCs and allow CCMs who were forced into working for the UK AOC the opportunity to fly for the NO AOC again.
5. Day(s) of Action – “Disappointment in Norse Management”
Rosters that continue to have a ridiculous low number of hours, the cut in staffing from 9 to 8 crew members, the lack of a bidding system, a Staff Travel system that is not fully working, the lack of travel agreements with other airlines, and the removal of crew breakfast at hotels have resulted in an all-time low in crew morale. As we approach the one-year anniversary for Norse, the Union is considering planning a single or multiple “day of action” to let Norse Management know that we are disappointed in their decisions and lack of action on issues that are important to the cabin crew. This may involve writing/signing a letter or postcard, showing up to the Norse office in Arendal, London, or Fort Lauderdale to speak directly to the Management, and confronting management (in a professional way) on the aircraft or at the airport while they’re in transit. Vocalizing/venting on Facebook unfortunately doesn’t accomplish anything. If you are ready to take some real action to enact change here at Norse and/or if you want to volunteer in the planning of our “Day of Action” events, please email [email protected]
