On Friday, the Planning department sent out a Scheduling Preferences Survey that asks crew what kind of trips you “prefer” to work. The preferences form was not approved by the AFA Scheduling Committee as it is a PREFERENCE and not a proper bid; however, it is a step in the right direction by showing crew what type of trips they can expect to fly in the future. The Scheduling Committee has communicated to the Company that "preferencing a trip" is not the same as having an actual bidding system. Crew not only need to see the trips, how many trips a CCM will have on their roster (block hours) and where the trips and days off are placed on the roster.Until we have a system where CCMs can choose how many trips they work and the exact days they'll be working, we will continue advocating for a proper bidding system for CCMs.
It's also important to note that the JFK base survey showed trips to LGW and CDG. It’s our understanding that these flights will be performed by the JFK CCMs for one or two months and not indefinitely.
2) FLL Base Changes
FLL crew received an email from Norse HR on Friday saying there was a surplus of crew in FLL. Voluntary transfers from FLL to JFK were offered as well as voluntary leaves of absence. It is expected that the surplus will last until October. The Union and the Company will meet on Friday to discuss solutions to the surplus.
FLL crew will work flights between LGW and Florida (FLL and MCO). Because the UK operation is flying under a different AOC, FLL-based crew must choose between flying for the UK operation or staying with the Norway operation. FLL Crew in the UK operation will work flights between US cities and LGW. Crew in the Norway operation will work flights between US cities and OSL (and other European cities, if they become available). To determine which FLL crew will work in each AOC, there will be a bidding process. The bids will be awarded in seniority order. Only FLL crew will be able to bid for the FLL UK Operation.
3) Seniority List
The Seniority List has been finalized and can be found HERE. Our seniority numbers have been predetermined by the Pre-Hire Agreement, so we have kept those same seniority numbers even though not everyone from the pre hire list is now working for Norse. If someone from the Pre-Hire list gets hired at Norse now or in the future, they will receive a new seniority number which will be behind everyone else on the list.
4) Travel Benefits
The Company has been in operation for 8 months and we are still no closer to having any travel agreements in place. Because “Jumpseat Agreements” are part of our CBA, the AFA has notified Norse that we are serious about filing a grievance against the Company for not fulfilling their obligation to provide jumpseat agreements to the CCMs. The Company has asked that we wait to file the grievance until our next meeting, which will be held this Friday at Norse’s UK Office.
5) Zoom Meeting
Your AFA leaders have a meeting scheduled with Norse HR on Friday to discuss their projection of staffing numbers and average line (roster) values for the rest of 2023. We will provide an to update everyone in a Zoom meeting on Friday at 1100 Eastern. Candidates running for union office will be given 5 minutes at the end of the meeting to give a speech.
