Norse Management has approached the Union with issues they're experiencing regarding the aircraft security search in certain cities. The issues involve fines for the company, excessive 3rd party costs, and departure delays. The two cities that are most problematic for us are New York and Berlin. They have asked for our help by asking us, the cabin crew, to perform the security search in these two airports (with the possibility of others) to improve on-time performance, save money for the company, and ensure the safest outcomes for the passengers and the crew.
The AFA has a long history of fighting airline management on the issue of flight attendants performing security searches--especially when some airlines forced it upon the flight attendants without even asking. Norse management has recognized that this is a sensitive subject for the AFA and has asked us for our help in solving a problem as we are about to initiate service into one of our newest cities--Berlin. We told them that we cannot give permission for them to require this of the crew until we talk to you about the issues we are facing and ultimately get your approval to perform the searches.
Norse's first flight from Berlin is on August 17th. Norse has not signed a contract with a 3rd party contractor to perform security searches due to the extremely high cost Norse was quoted. Because of the urgency of the situation, we have setup two Zoom meetings (today and tomorrow) for you to tell us how you feel about performing the security search for the Company.
