Filipino American Heritage Month - October 2023

Unfortunately in my October 2023 HRE Update, I neglected to include that October is also Filipino American History Month (FAHM).
To make up for my mistake, I am updating my October newsletter, and am creating a separate post to highlight FAHM.

Filipino American History Month (FAHM) is recognized in October to commemorate the arrival of the first Filipinos in the continental United States at what is now Morro Bay, California on October 18, 1587. In 1992, the Filipino American National Historical Society introduced FAHM, and in 2009 U.S. Congress officially recognized October as FAHM in the U.S.
Here are some ways to highlight and honor FAHM
- Support Filipino-owned businesses and charities
- Wear your AANHPI AFA Pin
- Educate yourself on the Filipino American Experience and the history of Filipinos in America.
