Two days ago, Management contacted the Union regarding JFK crew who need to obtain a UK medical certificate because they will be working for the UK AOC. Management was unwilling to utilize existing reserve days to send the crew to LGW to get their medical certificates. The Union’s position was that because the rosters were already awarded, they cannot move the crew’s days off nor require them to travel on their days off. After some discussion, we came to an agreement that we believe is fair to the crew:
1. JFK CCMs who need UK medicals are encouraged to travel to the UK on their days off to get their UK medical done between now and May 18th.
2. Those who agree to get their UK medicals done on their days off in April or May shall have all costs associated with getting their UK medical covered by the Company. Management has agreed to arrange and pay for: the medical exam, flights, and hotels. If an appointment is made with one of the two Aeromedical Centers suggested by the Company in yesterday's email, Management will arrange a direct billing solution with the Aeromedical Center, even though it says the CCM may be directly responsible. The CCM will have to submit receipts to be reimbursed for: cost of transportation to medical center and meals. Sharing transportation (rental cars, Uber, taxi, etc.) is encouraged. Note: The two aeromedical centers suggested by the Company are not near LGW. Before you confirm an appointment, please research the location of the appointment. Even though the cost of transportation will be reimbursed, the time and the amount of money it takes to get to some of the locations needs to be considered beforehand.
3. You aren't obligated to go to one of the two Aeromedical Centers suggested by the company in yesterday's email--you can use whomever you want on any day in April or May--you just need to make your own appointment and pay for the cost of the medical and submit the receipt for reimbursement. You can search for UK Aeromedical Examiners here: https://www.caa.co.uk/commercial-industry/pilot-licences/find-an-ame/
4. If you get your UK medical done by next Tuesday (25APR) and e-mail all receipts (transportation, meals, etc.) directly to Gine by 25APR, she can reimburse all your expenses on your 31APR paycheck. Any expenses submitted 26APR or later must be submitted through Zoho and will be reimbursed on the 15MAY or 31MAY paycheck (depending on how soon it's submitted).
5. If you are required to get a UK medical certificate but you aren’t able to go on your days off in April or May, you will not receive any discipline or loss of pay. You will still receive your monthly guarantee, but you will not be legal work any UK flights until your medical is received. Those who don't get their medical completed by 18MAY may have their training assignments, trips, and reserve days in May or June rescheduled to DH to/from LGW for the purposes of obtaining their UK medical certificate.
